Cast: Liang Cuishan, Zhang Ninghao, Ren Bin, etc.
Originally pursuing a career in law, Ran switched her focus to filmmaking after a formative trip to Europe.
In 2016, I graduated from Prague Film School and returned to Beijing and started a new chapter in life. All my friends were living a stable, comfortable middle-class life. Meanwhile, an impulse to break the shackles of ordinary life was brewing in almost everyone’s mind. — Ran Li, director
Now based in Beijing and Prague, Ran’s experiences inspired the story of Till Love Do Us Part.
The theater performance is an adaptation of “Wet Wedding” by AKHE.
The film follows college lecturer, Shu, as she falls madly in love with a theater director during a work trip to Europe. But with a fiancé and a decent middle-class life waiting for her in China, Shu faces a dilemma that has deep societal consequences.
The film was shot in 22 days in the Czech Republic during the toughest part of the lockdown. Everything was uncertain up until the last day, but thanks to a great crew, and the excellent film infrastructure in our country, we managed to finish everything according to plan. One of the challenges was to bring crew from China to Czech Republic. It wouldn’t have been possible without the support of the Czech Film Commission and the exemption granted by the Ministry of Culture. It was a small miracle. — Michal Sikora, executive producer
