DIVADELNÍ SVĚT BRNOFESTIVAL DIVADLO PLZEŇThis dynamic, new circus ensemble performance focuses on human personality— specifically, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, also known as ADHD. The production is helmed by acclaimed new circus director, Rostislav Novák Jr. The show features a line-up of eight exceptional new circus artists from Finland, Venezuela, Canada, Spain, Belgium, the Netherlands and France. All of who take their respective crafts of juggling, acrobatics and dancing into new, innovative directions.

In preparing the project, Novák collaborated with psychologists, therapists, psychiatrists, neurologists, and children from special schools. The theme of the performance is very personal to Rostislav Novák Jr. “I myself was diagnosed with ADHD as a child and one of my sons is ADHD as well,” he says. “When I see him growing up, fighting with himself, with his surroundings, looking for his dreams; how his body and head sometimes react on their own and he can’t control or understand it. I thought I would do a project for him. I want him to understand that ADHD is not a disease, as many claims, but a benefit. A new quality of life.”

“It is a story inspired by real people and real experiences. A story that is inspired by Torey Hayden, Emil Zátopek, Jean-Michel Basquiat, and people with ADHD who lived right here and now. There are theories that thanks to people like Christopher Columbus, Albert Einstein, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Winston Churchill, Leonardo da Vinci or Charles IV, our society has reached the point where we are. They were all hyperactive, and look at where we are in human history,” explains Rostislav Novák jr.
