Big news from the Czech Film Fund
Great news for two projects currently on deck.
The recent call for Minority Co-Productions saw a surge in applications for the Czech Film Fund. They received 34 applications, and supported 10 projects with Lonely Production contributing to two of them.
Director Lungyin Lim’s “Malice” is a unique Taiwanese-Czech co-production that received a 2.1 million CZK grant from the Czech Film Fund. The film follows a fisherman and his son on a quest to find an almost extinct giant swordfish, blending environmental concerns with a deeply personal narrative. The film’s authenticity, and innovative storytelling earned recognition from the Czech Film Fund, emphasizing the power of international cinematic partnerships.
Co-production between Taiwan, Malaysia, Indonesia and Czech Republic.
In collaboration with Lonely Production, director Lidia Duda’s “Forest” explores the impact of the refugee crisis on a secluded family near the Polish-Belarusian border. With a 1.4 million CZK grant, the documentary delves into moral dilemmas, political involvement, and the delicate balance of family life. The film’s open approach to complex questions resonated with the Czech Film Fund, showcasing cinema’s ability to address societal issues on a global scale.
Co-production between Lumisenta Film Foundation (PL) and Lonely Production (CZ).
The Czech Film Fund’s council evaluation emphasized screenplay quality, financial security, and Czech involvement. The results underscore the importance of international collaborative efforts in the evolving landscape of global cinema.
Focusing on specific cultural and political moments, as well as more universal human tribulations, we believe both “Malice” and “Forest” have much to contribute to the larger dialogue of global cinema. We’re grateful to the Czech Film Fund and excited to realize these dynamic projects!
Forest is to be released in 2024.
Malice will start shooting in April 2024.
