UNGRATEFUL BEINGS

Recently separated from his wife, David takes his teenage daughter Klára and younger son Teo on a holiday to the Adriatic coast, hoping that time away will help repair their fractured family. But beneath the appearance of a summer escape lie problems that cannot easily be left behind. Seventeen-year-old Klára is struggling with an eating disorder and with the emotional distance between her parents. When she meets Denis, a charismatic local boy, the new relationship seems to bring her back to life. For the first time in a long while, she begins to eat again.

The fragile idyll collapses when Denis is accused of murder. Frightened by what might happen, David abruptly takes his children home. Separated from Denis and once again trapped within the tensions of her family, Klára's condition rapidly deteriorates until she is hospitalized. Her worsening health forces David and his estranged wife Laura back together. Desperate to keep their daughter alive, they begin crossing boundaries they would once have considered unthinkable, blurring the line between care and manipulation, honesty and deception.
