Thirty-year-old university lecturer Shu Qiao seems to have her future perfectly arranged. She has a successful career and is preparing to marry Hu, a reliable and accomplished banker. Her life appears to be following exactly the path expected of her. During a visiting scholar programme in Prague, however, she meets Fan, a free-spirited theatre director whose way of living challenges everything Shu has taken for granted.

Their encounter develops into an intense relationship that leaves her caught between two countries, two men and two radically different versions of herself. As Shu begins to question the choices she has made, the certainty of her carefully constructed life starts to dissolve.
