BROKEN VOICES

Set in the early 1990s, Broken Voices follows 13-year-old Valerie, a gifted young singer who earns a place in a prestigious, world-renowned girls' choir. There she joins her older sister and a group of ambitious young singers competing for recognition, opportunities and the attention of their admired choirmaster, Vítek Mácha. When Valerie's exceptional talent begins to set her apart, she finds herself increasingly singled out by Mácha. What initially feels like a privilege gradually becomes something far more unsettling.

Inspired by the notorious Bambini di Praga case, Broken Voices is a restrained and deeply sensitive psychological drama about adolescence, ambition and the vulnerability of young people in environments governed by charismatic authority. Rather than reconstructing a specific case, the film examines the subtle mechanisms of grooming and the fragile moment when admiration, trust and innocence begin to give way to fear.
